Six smart solutions for a higher energy yield
An inverter should be able to provide the highest possible yields even when conditions are not ideal. Mastervolt’s inverters are designed to deliver the best possible results, not just when the sun is shining but also in changing conditions or with low insolation (low light intensity on the PV panels).
How is this achieved? At Mastervolt we have identified six separate performance characteristics that when combined together ensure you get the most output from your inverter. Smart thinking pays dividends….
1. IntelliStart: Getting more out of early mornings and late evenings
An inverter with IntelliStart wakes up earlier in the morning and goes to sleep later – which is the equivalent of some 200 additional operating hours a year! While many traditional products work with a constant start-up voltage, the smart IntelliStart start-up inside a Mastervolt inverter extends the operating time by automatically adjusting to the solar panels.
2. Optima Cooling: Stable high efficiency and constant high power
A high inverter temperature will reduce efficiency and lead to power derating. The ambient temperature is always at its highest when the sun is most powerful. Mastervolt inverters are fitted with a smart active Optima Cooling system, which automatically adjusts the cooling to ambient conditions. As a result, you will still have high efficiency and a constant high capacity on even the hottest days.
3. IntelliTrack: Extra yield by responding to weather changes faster
Insolation levels change constantly, especially on cloudy days, and inverters must adjust quickly and precisely. Any delay or deviation from the perfect position leads to a loss of energy. Mastervolt inverters are equipped with a dynamic and highly accurate MPP tracker that constantly adapts to the insolation level. The independent Austrian Institute of Technology tested the performance of the smart IntelliTrack, simulating a full year of operation. It reported 99.9% static MPP efficiency and 99.8% dynamic MPP efficiency. In other words, the Mastervolt tracker’s adaptability is among the best in class.
4. Real-Life Efficiency: Getting the timing right
Mastervolt inverters achieve very high maximum and European efficiency values. Despite what the ‘European efficiency’ formula suggests, most of your annual yield is generated at medium to high levels of insolation. Unfortunately, many inverters perform best at low to medium levels of sunlight, with reduced efficiency at high insolation. This is not the case with a Mastervolt inverter. Our smart Real-Life Efficiency design strategy maximises yield by running the inverter at peak efficiency when abundant sunlight is available.
5. IntelliGrid: Stable operation during grid disturbances
The small grid disturbances that occur with most installations often lead to disconnection of the solar inverter. Between one and five disconnections per day are no exception, each of which taking two to five minutes. And the economic losses can be as high as 4%. Mastervolt’s smart IntelliGrid function enables our inverters to continue power feed-in even during grid disturbances, resulting in a higher yield.
6. High voltage for low cable losses
Up to 2% of the total energy available from PV panels is lost in cabling. To keep this to a minimum, Mastervolt inverters are designed to operate at high voltages. A smart doubling of system voltage results in a four-fold reduction of cable loss. The 1000V rated SunMaster ES 4.6 inverter reduces cable loss by up to 80% compared to inverters with lower voltage ratings.
